Our story

TheFinSense was born from a simple idea: learning about finance shouldn’t be intimidating

My name is Danny Hwang, and I started TheFinSense after years of frustration with how financial education works online. Most of it falls into two extremes — oversimplified advice that sounds good but loses you money, or dense institutional research that nobody outside Wall Street can read.
I built this site to sit right in the middle. Every article starts with a real question beginners actually ask, then answers it with primary data — SEC filings, Federal Reserve numbers, peer-reviewed research, and historical market returns going back decades. No opinions without evidence. No hype without math.
The methodology is simple: if a claim can’t be traced back to a credible source, it doesn’t appear on this site. Every chart, every backtest, every comparison table links to where the data came from.
If you’re tired of financial content that talks down to you or tries to sell you something, you’re in the right place.

About the author

I’m Danny Hwang — the founder of TheFinSense and the person behind every data point, backtest, and analysis on this site.

I studied Statistics at Virginia Tech (B.Com), where I built my foundation in statistical modeling and probability theory. After graduation, that academic training turned into an obsession with one question: how do markets actually behave when you strip away the noise and just follow the math?

TheFinSense exists because most financial education online falls into two traps — either it’s dumbed down to the point of being useless, or it’s buried in jargon that scares beginners away. I wanted to build something different: a place where complex market concepts are explained through hard data, historical backtests, and zero hype.

Every article on this site is built on primary sources — SEC filings, Federal Reserve data, academic research from NBER and SSRN, and industry reports from Vanguard, Morningstar, and J.P. Morgan. If a number appears in an article, it links back to where it came from. No exceptions.

My goal with this site is to create the resource I wish I had when I started: a place to learn the fundamentals of investing without the hype — just math, data, and honest analysis.
