Quant Analyst & Founder
Danny Hwang
Independent financial researcher focused on market structure, portfolio costs, financial statements, and the assumptions that shape long-term investment results.
Danny Hwang founded TheFinSense in 2025 to publish financial analysis that readers can inspect rather than simply accept. His work concentrates on the point where a familiar ratio, projection, or headline number becomes misleading because the source, denominator, timing convention, or assumptions are left unstated.
At TheFinSense, Hwang combines public filings, official data, academic research, reproducible calculations, and plain-language explanation. The aim is not to turn a model into a promise. It is to make clear what the evidence supports, what the calculation assumes, and where the conclusion becomes less reliable.
Published work
The Q1 2026 Balance Sheet Stress Report
Hwang’s published working paper analyzes the most recent available 10-Q or 10-K filings for 396 S&P 500 non-financial companies and identifies 27 firms with negative stockholders’ equity. It proposes a three-regime framework for cases in which conventional debt-to-equity interpretation becomes unstable or mathematically undefined.
The paper is presented as independent working research rather than peer-reviewed journal work, with public records available through TheFinSense Studies, SSRN, and Zenodo.
Working standard
Three rules shape the work.
Trace the material claim
A central factual statement should point back to the source that actually supports it, with the relevant date, population, and measurement basis made clear.
Expose the model
Material modeled results should disclose the inputs, timing convention, formula, and assumptions needed to understand how the result was produced.
Keep the conclusion bounded
Historical evidence, current snapshots, scenarios, and backtests answer different questions. A conclusion should not claim more than the method can establish.
